O Christmas Tree

Steve and I went to a "tree farm" (read: a grove of trees in someone's front yard) this weekend and cut down our Christmas tree. Now that we've got some decorations on it, it doesn't look too bad, but when we first put it up, it looked a little Charlie-Brown-esque. (It's actually about 7 feet tall, despite the fact that it looks tiny in this picture.)

I'm no horticulturist, but I think the problem is that the dear, sweet people of Tennessee think white pines make good Christmas trees. When my northern readers really know that you need a good spruce tree. On this silly tree, the branches are thin and sparse, and the needles are so long and soft that it's extremely difficult to hang any sort of ornament. Well, at least it's got a good shape.

It still needs a topper, but I haven't had a chance to look anywhere but Walmart--and the only ones they had were incredibly tacky. Alas--it is our first Christmas tree, and I think it's kind of cute.

Amy, I think it looks great, even without a topper. Believe me, if you saw our tree, you would realize that yours looks top notch in comparison. The sad thing is we just bought this new tree last year. This is our 5th Christmas together and we are yet to have a tree we are willing to show others.

Hey Amy- You may want to check out this site for next Christmas... http://www.christmas-tree.com/real/tn/

I found Volunteer Tree Farm in Lebanon, and got a Scotch Pine instead of the White Pine. :) I love that place!!

First off, Amy my dear, White Pines make excellent Christmas trees. That's what my family used to get every year until a few years ago. You just have to find the right one. Though to be honest, it's not what I picked out for my family this year. It was close, but dad and I did decide to go with a fir. White pine is still my favorite though, it's soft, the perfect shade of green, you can burry the lights deep into the tree (that makes the tree glow), and the smell perfect. But at least you went to cut it down yourself. That's always better then going to a stand and buy one that looks like it's been taken hostage. So don't knock the White Pine, they're my friends.

I agree, spruces are the best for Christmas trees, but I must say, your tree is darling! It's your first too, which makes it special :) Hope you have a wonderful Christmas!
